Pornography Statistics

This may be an uncomfortable topic, but particularly if you are the parent of boys, it is one that you must give consideration. The startling fact is that 90% of 8-16-year-olds have seen porn online and 80% of 15-17-year-olds have had multiple hard-core porn exposures. You cannot assume that your child will be the exception.

Pornography is an industry larger than most of us are aware. Just to give you some perspective, here are a few statistics from Family Safe Media:

Pornographic websites 4.2 million

Daily pornographic search engine requests
68 million

Daily pornographic emails 2.5 billion

Internet users who view porn 42.7%

Received unwanted exposure to sexual material 34%

Monthly Pornographic downloads (Peer-to-peer) 1.5 billion

Internet Pornography Sales $4.9 billion

Every second - $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography
Every second - 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography

Every second - 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines
Every 39 minutes: a new pornographic video is being created in the United States

The porn industry makes $97 billion worldwide, which equals the combined incomes of Microsoft, Apple, ebay, Earthlink, Amazon, Google, Yahoo, and Netflix! Incredible! UNICEF estimates 2 million children worldwide are exploited through prostitution and pornography, the most lucrative illegal industry in the world after drug trafficking and weapons dealing (2007).

My goal is to do a series of articles on the dangers of pornography, the Scriptural exhortations relating to sexual purity, and precautions you can take to safeguard your children.
